This past summer Gene Gouthro, owner/engineer of Athlone Studios and Sound in Everett Ontario, suggested we get this project rolling - and rolling we have! Late September we began recording the bed tracks for fourteen of my songs and at this point we have completed all the bed tracks and we're starting to schedule in the fabulous FLY BY NIGHT ORCHESTRA members to bring the tunes to life.
Mandolin player extraordinaire, Emory Lester has created brilliance already and will without a doubt, make this gem sparkle! Electric bassist Garret Doyle has discovered an inner jazz musician - which surprised the heck out of him! We are thrilled to welcome acoustic upright bassist Denis Rondeau as our newest member of the FLY BY NIGHT ORCHESTRA.Other new members include guitar master Dave Clarke all the way from Victoria B.C. Cellist Alyssa Wright has already recorded two beautiful songs and we're just waiting for Violinist and original FBNO member Geoff Somers to make it up to the studio.
A number of original FBNO members are returning for repeat performances including Jack Walker on Dobro, Robert Reid on jazz guitar, Mike Stevens on harmonica and fingers crossed - if David Francey can find time from his busy schedule, we can expect to hear his wonderful voice on a tune or two. The lovely Tannis Slimmon will be featured on harmony vocals as will my sisters in song 'The Pomelos'!I've actually booked the Orangeville Opera House for November 15th in preparation for one heck of a CD release concert. Stay tuned and I'll keep you posted!
Mix Mama Karen Kane, will be mixing this magnificent pot of stew and if all goes well, the new project 'The Water In Between' (working title) will be released this summer.
Creating magic in the studio is only one part of the process. These projects are extremely time consuming and expensive to produce.
