Gene & Tom decided it was time to continue down the Ontario compilation path created by Jordy Sharp with "The Orchard Sessions" and Tony deBoer with "A Touch of Canada". The idea quickly received enthusiastic support from other Ontario musicians and it was full speed ahead!

During the months of January to April 2006, sixteen Ontairo Bluegrass bands made their way to Gene's Athlone Studio to record original tunes that had not been previously recorded. Three other groups sent a song that they had recorded elsewhere, (as noted in the song credits in the liner notes). In total, eighty musicians were involved in NORTH TO ONTARIO.
