"Liner Notes" Live is a collective of very diverse and incredibly talented Canadian musicians, who will be coming together in the Songwriters' Circle to share with the audience the stories and creative process behind their songs. Those tales interspersed with musical performances of their favourite selections will make for a very intimate, interactive and highly entertaining afternoon that you won't want to miss.
Just what are we writing/talking about... ?
Marylou In Burgundy
"Marylou O'Brien worked at two or three of the bars I'd play in Ottawa. The first time I saw her she had on this burgundy number and the rest just sort of spilled out on the page one summer. Nice lady. Smells a bit but she has a heart of gold." WT.Tufts from the album "Two Nights Solo"
Taken from HIS liner notes, this story from revered Canadian artist Terry Tufts is just one of the stories you may hear over the course of the "Liner Notes" Live Performance.

DEAN McTAGGARTDEAN McTAGGART
"I come from a Pop/ Rock background so most of the songs I have had the most luck with started as Pop cuts', states Dean. "I always have tried to make the lyric 'matter' which in my opinion is sometimes lacking in Pop tunes. I think that is why I've been lucky enough to have a lot of my songs cross over to the Country market as well for as we all know it's the lyric that will make or break a Country song".
Dean's professional career started as the lead singer/songwriter for the Canadian rock/pop band The Arrows in 1981. An independant release"Misunderstood" was followed by two albums for A&M records which produced the hit singles"Meet me in the Middle","Talk Talk", and "Heart of the City".
When the band broke up in 1986 Dean went on to be a staff songwriter penning many hits including "Darkhorse" a number one in Canada for Amanda Marshall which Elton John called a sure fire hit on Rosie O'Donnell, "Birmingham" a top twenty song worldwide for Amanda Marshall as well as hits for Anne Murray, Australian super star Tina Arena, Terri Clark, Kelly Coffee, John Berry, The Guess Who, John McDermott, Wynonna Judd, The Rankin Family, Danny Brooks, Shakura S'Aida and many others.
Dean has twice been nominated for a Juno for songwriter of the year and has received many SOCAN and ASCAP awards. Over the years Dean has been kept busy producing, recording, writing and playing live either with a band or in solo songwriter situations. His new cd is "Drop the Needle in the Groove."

JENICA RAYNEJENICA RAYNE
"Jenica paints perfect pictures with her words that evoke deep feelings spoken from her soul to ours. A wonderful writer, with relaxed and humorous stage presence." Linda Kidder, Musician
Jenica Rayne's music has been described as 'intimate, evocative and haunting', critics have coined her 'a poet of consequence, an advocate for personal and social change.' Her competent guitar work matched by creative word-smithing makes her music easy to listen to, but invites close attention.
Born in the picturesque village of Picton, on the shores of Lake Ontario, Canada Jenica has lived near water all her life. As an adult she moved to the west coast, living in Vancouver and the Gulf Islands for more than a decade. She now calls Kingston, Ontario, her home. The soothing power and restless beauty of a body of water is a fitting metaphor for Jenica Rayne's music, which is at once poetic, passionate and resonant.
Jenica comes from a long line of professional musicians. Her father played guitar in bands for over 17 years (as did his father); his influence and encouragement are evident. She is a graduate of Malaspina University/College's Jazz program in Nanaimo BC, majoring in guitar. Jenica's discography includes 3 critically acclaimed CD's: Hall of Memories in 1999, Essential Elements in 2004 produced by Simon Kendall and her latest release Live Rayne in 2007 which she self produced.

TERRY TUFTS TERRY TUFTS
"Have guitar. Will travel. "
Terry Tufts songwriting contemporaries refer to him as a musical triple threat. A superb singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Terry's lyrics speak straight from the heart and from a charged social conscience. His stirring melodies are supported by sophisticated finger-style guitar orchestrations and his recordings are consistently greeted with critical acclaim. Named a winner in Standard Radio's National Songwriting Competition in 1997, he is also the only two-time winner of the Ontario Council of Folk Festival's Songs From the Heart competition, taking that honour in 1998 and 2001.
Terry has been playing music for enjoyment since 1963 and as a profession since 1974. His father's job with the Canadian Government moved the family to Denver, Colorado in the U.S. in the 1960's at a time when the folk and rock music genres were influencing opinion everywhere. Other postings that influenced him musically took him to Ottawa, Ontario, and Rome, Italy. Upon returning to Canada to complete high school, he irremovably stuck his head into the soundhole of an acoustic guitar. He suffers from the affliction to this day, coupled with frequent electric outbursts that last long into the night. In 1974 he moved to Fredericton, New Brunswick, to begin pursuing his own musical career as a singer-songwriter and guitarist, as well as working as a session musician and sideman for a variety of artists including Tom Paxton, Kathryn Briggs, David Francey, Colleen Peterson, Laura Smith, Laura Bird, Ian Tamblyn, Lynn Miles, Bill Garrett & Sue Lothrop, The Arrogant Worms, Wayne Rostad, Susan Aglukark, Tracey Brown, and George Fox. He has 7 albums to his credit (one unreleased) and is currently signed to Borealis Records. Terry Tufts lives off-grid with his wife and daughter in the bush in North Frontenac, Ontario.

LAURA BIRDLAURA BIRD
"A warm, rich, fresh voice ~ great songwriting … fabulous musicianship"
Pat Moore Host: Weekend Warm-Up CKCU FM 93.1
Laura Bird draws inspiration from a mosaic of musical influences beginning with early folk roots and bluegrass to old jazz standards. Through the keen eye of the observer her songs are sensitive, compassionate and heartfelt often drawing visual references from a childhood spent growing up in small town Ontario along the St. Lawrence River. With her warm, relaxed stage presence, finely honed guitar work, a painters' eye for lush images and sultry, smoky voice, you'll want to close your eyes and watch the mind movies inspired by Laura’s soundtrack.
Bird’s latest recording The Water In Between, has been receiving well-deserved praise since its release in November 2008. Robert Reid of the Waterloo Record writes, “The Water in Between is a delight in every way.” Included in Penguin Eggs Magazine’s DJ top ten favourites of 2008, it enjoyed top ten spins for three consecutive months (March-May 2009) ultimately listing among Galaxie Folk-Roots satellite radio top high rotation album releases of 2009. Her recent performances include the Red Roof Women’s Music Festival, Blue Skies Festival and the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, a variety of successful solo concerts including performances for the Haliburton, Orillia and Kitchener Folk Societies and a return visit to Nova Scotia to tour with fellow songwriter Darren Arsenault.
Orangeville Ontario songstress Laura Bird has served on both the OCFF and ArtsCan Circle Board of Directors; she co-founded the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award; co-founded the Headwaters Acoustic Music Society and retired as Artistic Director of the Live! At the Opera House concert series in Orangeville in April 2008.
