About Laura Bird

Writing with the perceptive heart of a storyteller and a painters' eye for lush images, her songs stir the sensitive, compassionate and insightful nature of the listener. Enthusiastic audiences from house concert to festival stage have embraced her warm relaxed stage presence, finely honed guitar work, and that distinctive sultry, smoky voice.
Performing since 1990,Laura has released two critically acclaimed albums (Dreamwalker, 2000; The Water In Between, 2008) and is presently writing for her third.
She has served on numerous arts industry boards most notably Folk Music Ontario (formerly Ontario Council of Folk Festivals). She also co-founded the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award now held in trust with the Ontario Arts Council. As well, Laura helped establish the Headwaters Acoustic Music Society in Orangeville 1998-2008, serving the final 2 years as Artistic Director.

Live Performance Review ~ Orillia Folk Society
"Last night's show went well beyond the usual level of enjoyment. We were transfixed throughout, eagerly listening for the next heart-rending line of lyric and melody, singing along like the angel choir we are often reputed to be. Laura's poignant writing, relaxed presence and superlative voice held us in thrall. It was that rare sort of evening, when everyone, performer included, left smiling, knowing they had been part of something very special." Paul Court, Orillia Folk Society

" I'm sitting here listening to your new CD. What a delight it is! I love your voice and the songs and here's the bonus: it's one of the most gorgeously produced albums I've heard in quite a while! Just my cup of tea: clean, musical, lush and real." Paul Mills - Musician/Producer The Mill Stream, Toronto, ON
